July 2022 Recap
After spending the first part of the year battling our van’s constant mechanical issues, and then facing the daunting challenge of learning how to sail (mostly the hard way) from Amsterdam to Norway, July continued to keep us on our toes…
Every day, a new storm hit us and we found it difficult to push north into new territories with Norway having the stormiest summer in 51 years. Fighting to make our way north, we realized we would have to go back down and anxiety set in like a brick sinking in the water.
We’ve realized that we move much slower on a sailboat and that if we were going to get to Southern Europe for the nicer winter climates, that we would have to go over 2500 nautical miles. And at our rate, it would take us almost 2 months! So the anxiety set in. We just got here! It’s supposed to be time to relax! Can’t even think about taking on those seas again for that long!
If you know us, the fear won’t stop us, but it definitely gave us something to think about. For now, let’s bottle that down and focus on exploring the new fjords we worked so hard to get to.
